The Huntington West Virginia Housing Authority

Shelter Plus Care
Rental Assistance Program

WHAT IS SHELTER PLUS CARE?
Funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) this program is a grant developed specifically to provide housing assistance to the communities disabled homeless population.

Access to the program is provided through the Prestera Center and the Tri-State AIDS Task Force.  These agencies are partners with the Huntington Housing Authority in the Shelter Plus Care Program.  They refer individuals in need of housing assistance to us and provide much needed support services for them.

Shelter Plus Care is a program designed to provide housing and supportive services on a long term basis for homeless persons with disabilities.

The program reaches persons with serious mental illnesses, chronic substance abuse problems or AIDS victims who are financially unable to provide suitable housing for themselves and their families.

The Huntington Housing Authority administers three Shelter Plus Care grants.  We have fifty-seven (57) Housing slots in Cabell County and fifty-two (52) in Wayne County. To help applicants with their home search, we can provide an extensive listing of available local residences.  The Huntington Housing Authority makes every effort to insure that individuals receive affordable, accessible, quality housing in a timely and confidential manner.
